I'd rather be Myself
Composed on 25 January 1989
Neither a Frenchman nor an Indian I try to be
For I’m from an island in the sea.
Neither Ford nor an Onassis appeals to me
For I wouldn’t yet want in their graves to be.
I only wish to bloom where I’m planted
For one could be rejected when transplanted.
There was a child who wanted to be a cow in the field and moo
But she never knew that could end her up in the stew.
Some would like to try everything that they see
And go wandering from tree to tree like a bee.
My silly self would rather live and die as I am
Without craving for another’s name or fame.
